Do you know what Ontario law requires of you when it comes to the mudflaps on your pickup truck?
Many vehicles come from the factory or dealership with equipment that does not meet the minimum standard so it is up to you, the driver to know the rules about mudflaps in Ontario.
Section 66.3 of Ontario’s Highway Traffic Act specifies that “every motor vehicle and every trailer shall be equipped with mudguards or fenders or other device adequate to reduce effectively the wheel spray or splash of water from the roadway to the rear thereof”
Is there a fine? You bet there is! In addition to the trouble of being pulled over and being late for work you might be subject to a fine which, at last report, was a minimum $85. Of course, all of this is to protect the other vehicles and drivers on the road and that includes you and your family!
If you’re driving a pickup truck in Ontario it pays (literally!) to know the regulation and have effective mudflaps. Here is a handy tool to help you figure out what size mudflaps you need for your truck.
